First sharia panchayat in Punjab would be inaugurated in  malerkotla, (Sangrur )  in March 2013. This will allow the muslim community to deal with three main type of cases and disputes inheritance , marriage, divorce. This panchayat will provide speedy and inexpensive justice to muslim community in Punjab. Punjab waqf board explained, if litigants were not satisfied with the panchayat verdict, they could  move the civil court. Sharia panchayat were already opened in various states like Madhya Pradesh , jharkand ,Orissa , Karnataka . Once demand of this panchayat is judged, there would be an inauguration of more sharia panchayats in Punjab.
