The supreme court ruled out on 14 january,2013  that any order by  khap panchayats  asking girls/women not to carry mobiles or dress(tshirt,jeans) in a particular way is violative of law and is an offence.

Recently supreme court summoned the khaps to hear their opinion before issuing any order to curb the dictated violence against young couples who married from same gotra.
